I am realizing that dancing is not for wimps.  Specifically, people sit back and criticize the celebrities on Dancing with the Stars and likely have no idea how tough those dances are.  Right now, I am working out to dance DVDs and taping television shows focused on dancing.  Working out, latin style is actually my favorite to do.

Using a Dancing with the Stars - Latin Cardio DVD, I am starting to slim down.  What I like the best is swinging my hips and creating my own form of sassiness in the comfort of my home.  Learning Merengue, Cha Cha, Samba, and Mambo and using the inspired moves outside of my workouts are loads of fun.  It is tough though.

When the instructors give the slow-motion instruction, I generally am cool - I can follow and copy the moves.  The minute we go uptempo, my feet get twisted and I feel like cement is attached to my feet.  Then, I start to giggle.  I wonder what that looks like...

Regardless of what it looks like, I am having fun working out, latin style.  Some of my challenges include doing the box steps, that is making an invisible box on the floor with a certain dance step, and the spot turns, turning in place, which tend to make me dizzy.  Plus, those moves require a bit more coordination that I have available right now.  These challenges keep me coming back so I can truly be a dancer one day.  In the meantime, I am working out, latin style.

Aimee

As a busy mom and entrepreneur, I got away from working out.  It was difficult to fit into my schedule.  Now that having the energy to be a mom and entrepreneur is so critical, I carved out that self-care time.  I'm using my workout time to dance my way to wellness!

Over a year ago, I had a 30-minute complimentary consultation with a Wellness Coach I met at a networking event.  I realized I loved to move more than I loved to "workout" or go to a gym.  The movement was key to feeling strong and healthy.  The thought of working out to lose weight was unappealing to me.  It even bored me.  Hence, it prevented me from getting needed exercise for health, wellness, and weight management.

I recently found a show called "Dance & be Fit" on FitTV.  I love it.  I'm learning new dances, moving my body, and feeling strong in the process.  While I'm not the most polished dancer, I'm having the time of my life.  Yes, the act of moving through dance is helping me manage stress and moving me closer to my wellness goals.

Last night, I went to a Christmas celebration at one of my cousin's house.  It was actually my first time visiting her new home, which was quite spacious.  When she told me we'd be doing line dancing, I thought - Yeah, right.  Well, her husband moved the furniture and her uncle (and my cousin also) teaches line dancing at his church and for his local community, led the way.

Now, I'm not the same dancer I was when I was younger.  I remember in 4th grade I had a chance to lead the 4th graders' dance team.  I probably had less inhibitions and did not mind shaking and moving to the music.

I'm not 9 years old anymore and I did not know this crowd.  So, it was a recipe for experimentation.  I had the time of my life.  I did not embarrass myself.  I had "Happy Feet"! and moved "to the left, to the left," without bumping into people.

Although the party was still going on when we left, that party won't soon be forgotten.   Dancing is meant to be fun and it truly was!  I can not wait until the next chance I get to show my "Happy Feet"!

Aimee

One of the things I've enjoyed over time is dancing. I was asked by a new associate if I liked to dance or just liked watching dancing. I like to dance, although I don't know any up-to-date dances (I'm stuck in the '80s) AND I like watching others dance. Needless to say, I watch "Dancing with the Stars". I love the competition aspect of the show as well as the variety in dance moves, music, and costumes. I admire those who can move their feet so fast.

Well, I proudly passed the love of dancing onto my son. At my brother's wedding last year, my son was out there dancing. In fact, he had a hard time getting a dance partner. We attended a festival a few months ago at a retirement community. Yes, my son was dancing with the older ladies while everyone sat and marvelled at his fearlessness.

Have you ever heard of "Baby Loves Disco"? It is a neat concept - afternoon dance parties in actual dance clubs are held around the country for kids 6 months - 7 years old. At the event in Philadelphia held on the first Sunday each month, there is disco dancing, healthy and tasty treats, and fun checking out the activity areas. We started a tradition on my son's first birthday to go at least once a year. When I think about it, my son went to a bar way before I ever did. While we missed his birthday month this year, it will be our 3rd time going to "Baby Loves Disco" on November 2nd and we'll have a few friends joining us for the first time. It will be a great time for everyone! I hope to remember to snap a few pictures to share.

Aimee
